Following in the successful footprints of an evening at Millennium Place in Whistler in May 2006, Dr. Allan Young, one of the world's top researchers in depression, will be on hand to lead an informative evening at the Chan Auditorium at BC Children's Hospital on Thursday, January 24, 2008.
Dr. Young and a panel of experts in mental illness will present an eye-opening discussion on the monster disease of depression and the devastating effect it has on families, friends and communities. According to Dr. Young, the first step in helping someone who is depressed is to get the problem out in the open and remind them that depression is a disease, not a character flaw or weakness. Attendee Denise McLaughlin said she believes the "very positive" event is the beginning of what can be done to create awareness and combat the stigma of depression.
